Reddit is one of the favourite platforms for cryptocurrency enthusiasts to share their articles, information, memes and ideas. And the platform embraced Bitcoin payments in the past for gifting the Gold premium option for other users. According to one user, the platform has stopped accepting Bitcoin as a means of payment.
Reddit Drops Bitcoin as a Payment Option
If you were thinking about using Bitcoin to give God to one of the best Reddit posts of the year, unfortunately, you will not be able to do it. According to the Reddit user BitcoinXio, the platform has dropped Bitcoin as a payment option.
The user uploaded a video in which he shows that he is not able to reward with a Premium account another user. The only payment options available at the moment were PayPal or credit card.
Another Reddit user known as emoney40, a moderator from various subreddits, said that Bitcoin as a payment option was suffering some bugs. At the same time, he explained that the upcoming changes in Coinbase are affecting the purchases for certain users.
“The upcoming Coinbase change, combined with some bugs around the Bitcoin payment option that were affecting purchases for certain users, led us to remove Bitcoin as a payment option.”
At the same time the moderator explained that they are going to take a careful look at the user’s demand and evaluate the progression of Coinbase Commerce before re-enable Bitcoin payments or not.
And in another comment he explained:
“We’re going to take a look at demand and watch the progression of Coinbase Commerce before making a decision on whether to reenable (bitcoin payments)”
Coinbase is one of the most important cryptocurrency platforms on earth. It is easy to use and allows people to buy some cryptocurrencies. In a blog post from the beginning of March, Coinbase announced that they were launching Coinbase Commerce in order to upgrade the merchant experience.
In that post, Coinbase says that the decision to retire Coinbase’s Merchant Tools to focus on Coinbase Commerce may be disruptive to Coinbase Merchant Tool customers. There are some changes that may be change the user experience and make it totally different.
“We recognize that this decision may be disruptive Coinbase Merchant Tool customers, and we’re here to help ensure a smooth transition. We suggest exploring Coinbase Commerce and if the product meets your needs, we recommend creating a Coinbase Commerce account by April 30th, 2018 to continue accepting cryptocurrency payments.”
It seems that one of the first platforms that is dropping Bitcoin as a means of payment due to Coinbase decision is Reddit.
