As New York City becomes a nexus for people creating new economic systems with permissionless distributed ledgers, Decentralized has made the city home to its first international chapter.
This chapter strives to help educate and develop the skills of its members through shared experiences, workshops, and support of this new ecosystem’s growth. The chapter is an open forum for individuals to teach, learn, build, and grow in their knowledge of all aspects of this nascent technology, from software to regulation. Through membership in the chapter, community members can access a global job portal, members-only meetups, discounts to the annual Decentralized conference, and educational materials.
At chapter meetings, professionals from various backgrounds will form and launch topic groups, workshops, projects, and more, using the support of the chapter to find like-minded peers. Workshops and projects may include: learning to set up full nodes on Bitcoin or Ethereum, discussion groups on policy developments, and experimenting with new decentralized applications (dApps).
The chapter is open to all, and the first official meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 17th at Galvanize, 303 Spring St. If you live or work in or around New York City and would like to be a member of the NYC Decentralized chapter, please sign up. Future meetings will generally take place the first Wednesday of each month at Galvanize.
The officers serving the Decentralized NYC chapter are:
- Evan Bayless – President – Product Marketer for a digital asset analysis tool, part-time researcher of all things permissionless and decentralized.
- Amy Vernon – Vice President – Veteran journalist and VP of Community at cybersecurity blockchain firm Rivetz.
- Andre Sterley – Treasurer – Sr. Audit Manager and Digital Asset Group Leader for Mazars USA, a high-performing accounting, tax and consulting firm.
Decentralized is organized by the University of Nicosia (UNIC), a global leader in blockchain education and research, as well as providers of the world’s first full academic degree in blockchain technology, the MSc in Digital Currency. This world-class summit features 70+ speakers from all over the world, exchanging knowledge and ideas on the innovative business, technological and political implications of blockchain technologies. There’s still time to register to attend their annual Decentralized Conference, which runs Nov. 14-16 in Athens, Greece.
