Do you know BNE? I give you a clue, it is not a cryptocurrency. BNE is the airport code of the Brisbane Airport. And as the title suggests, it will be the first cryptocurrency friendly airport in the world. According to local media, travellers that will visit the airport will notice that it will offer an unprecedented digital currency experience.
Brisbane Cryptocurrency Friendly Airport
BNE, in partnership with several terminal retailers, will work with TravelbyBit so as to bring decentralized blockchain payments. Different shops from various terminals will be connected to the blockchain by enabling cryptocurrency payments. The most important cryptocurrencies that will be accepted will be Ethereum, Bitcoin and Dash.
Some of the shops that will accept these payments are: Botanist, Spoon, Windmill & Co and Forte Espresso. The main idea is to keep the user’s identity secure and private and at the same time eliminate third-party interference. With this project, the airport will become a technological leader in the airport digital innovation space.
Roel Hellemons, Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) General Manager Strategic Planning and Development said:
“Many people around the world have made money investing in cryptocurrencies and a lot of these people travel internationally, so it makes sense to offer a digital currency experience within our terminals.”
The small local start-up business TravelbyBit will help the airport to transform itself into a cryptocurrency friendly airport.
“We are also proud to be the first airport in the world to achieve this in partnership with a small local start-up business such as TravelbyBit, whose pioneering thinking is drawing attention to Brisbane as a serious breeding ground of innovative thinking,” said Mr Hellemons. “This is just the beginning for us as we hope to expand the digital currency option across the business, so watch this space,” he finished.

The Brisbane airport will allow cryptocurrencies to be known by international travellers. People will realize that cryptocurrencies can be moved from one place to another and accepted worldwide. There are many advantages that travellers have when using cryptocurrencies instead of fiat.
Caleb Yeoh, CEO of TravelbyBit said:
“We are building a genuine use case for cryptocurrencies in the tourism industry. The application of digital currencies in this sector makes a lot of sense. Whenever you travel overseas you have to deal with multiple currencies and you never know what exchange rates the banks are charging you. Here at TravelbyBit we are promoting the Bitcoin travel movement. Digital currency for world-wide travel. It’s simple, safe and there’s no bank fees.”
